In ESP, the professional needs of the student drive the syllabus; be it the need to write emails, speak on the telephone, listen to customers or read business articles. Instruction focuses on industry-specific vocabulary such as medical terminology for nurses or equipment names for factory workers. Their existing knowledge gives them the context they need to understand English of the classroom and allows them to learn more rapidly.

It is this combined approach of English instruction and existing professional knowledge that motivates students and enables them to immediately apply what they learn to their field of expertise. Using their new skills in a meaningful context reinforces what is taught and drives them to continue expanding their use of the language. Thus ESP creates a cycle where the interest in their field motivates them to interact with speakers and texts with greater frequency, allowing continual growth in their English language skill set.

Fluency Connection’s ESP courses are designed around the convenience of both the employee and the employer. Class size, length and number of sessions depends on the language needs of the employee as well as the situation of the employer (i.e. schedules, shifts, etc). These factors are determined during a complimentary onsite consultation.
